Lothorian Pools proudly announces it was the winner of two 2011 Association of Pools and Spa Professionals (APSP) International Awards of Excellence.
The awards celebrates the best in pool and spa design and construction in the world, recognizing and rewarding the installation of pools "representing the most beautiful and creative examples of the industry’s efforts." Lothorian Pools received the awards in the categories of "traditional pool" and "recreation/leisure pools."
The traditional pool winner entailed the creation of a luxurious residential pool in Owings Mills surrounded by lush landscaping and secluded woodland. The geometric pool and spa themselves have a Pebble Tec interior pool finish and were bordered by natural bluestone, as was the paving material, evoking a feeling of separate outdoor "rooms." Raised dry-stack stone rubble walls constructed of Butler stone, native to northern Baltimore County, give the pool area a courtyard feel.
Lothorian Pool's winner in the recreation/leisure pool category was a children's pool area constructed for the Baltimore County Country Club, which was in need of a new space for kids to splash and play; their existing 25' diameter "baby pool" just wasn't exciting anymore. Lothorian's design task was to create a space that would be entertaining and interactive with ample areas of play for all ages. Not only did the pool have to be fun, but it needed to relate to the traditional feel of the campus. This feat was achieved by using interconnecting circles with various depths of water and featuring a series of fountains and bubblers that keep toddlers and older children busy and happy. In the splash pad area of the pool, there is no standing water; here the children can play in various water features without scuffing their knees because the surface of this area is rubber, making it safe for little ones. Paired with the subtle blue colors of the interior pool surfaces, the surrounding hardscape included a bluestone ribbon framing the shape of the pool and a brick landscape wall, both of which made the new pool integrate beautifully with the club's aesthetic.
"There is no greater example than these photos (of the projects) to show how APSP members transform the backyard environment, create memories that will last a lifetime, and promote health and well being," said APSP President and CEO Bill Weber. "The power of the images, the art of the design, and the end product is a testament to the value of our industry."
APSP is the world's largest international trade association representing the swimming pool, spa, and hot tub industry. A panel of elite industry judges looked at hundreds of entries from APSP members around the world this fall, and the winter issue of APSP's AQ Magazine will highlight the award winners. The 41st annual awards ceremony was held in November at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Student Union Grand Ballroom. Weber added that the awards are the "benchmark" for pool, spa and hot tub design. "The AOE winners represent the best of the best in craftsmanship and are an inspiration to all in the industry. Through strong corporate sponsorship, the celebration of art and design in construction of pools, spas and hot tubs continues."
